The Lucknow Super Giants easily defeated the Chennai Super Kings on Friday, giving the former an unpleasant awakening. With one over remaining, the home team had taken two vital points and won by a margin of eight wickets.
The LSG openers’ attack caused the Chennai Super Kings’ bowling unit to collapse. Particularly KL Rahul was in a punishing mood as he hit 82 runs to propel his team up to sixth place in the standings.
For some of the Chennai Super Kings bowlers and hitters, it was a day they would rather forget since nothing went their way.
With the exception of MS Dhoni’s late-order hitting and Ravindra Jadeja’s form, the team appeared uninspired and lifeless when playing the hot LSG team.
The Chennai Super Kings should think about making these three adjustments before their upcoming game.
3. It’s time to replace Rachin Ravindra with Mitchell Santner or Maheesh Theekshana.
Rachin Ravindra has struggled for runs in the IPL 2024 season, even though he scored 83 runs in his opening two games. The 24-year-old was dismissed for a first-ball duck on Friday and has only managed to score 50 runs in his last five games.
Maheesh Theekshana should be drafted by CSK now that they appear to be lacking a spinning option. To replace Rachin Ravindra, Ruturaj Gaikwad can return to the top of the hierarchy. The alternative is Mitchell Santner’s left-arm spin, who appears to be warming the benches for his team all the time.
2. Deepak Chahar’s diminishing influence is a major worry.
Deepak Chahar replaced Shardul Thakur, who had participated in the previous few games. The 31-year-old’s return, which included going wicketless in his three overs with the ball, was below average.
In his five games this season, Deepak Chahar has only claimed four wickets. His wicket-taking form has been declining this season, so this is a far cry from his talent with the ball.

1. Improved fielding is required
The Chennai Super Kings have been fortunate to have some excellent field players over the years. Among the names that spring to mind are Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, and Suresh Raina. When MS Dhoni was captain, he aspired for his team to be the strongest fielding unit on the field.
Due to far too many fielding errors on Friday, the men in yellow appeared to be a shell of their previous selves. Mustafizur Rahman was seen leading the ball to the ropes, but he made no attempt to halt a boundary, and Matheesha Pathirana missed an easy catch. Chennai Super Kings must ensure that they field properly if they want to return to their peak.
