Recently, former captain of Australia Ricky Ponting made hints about his potential return to the Indian Premier League (IPL). After the 2024 season, Ponting left the Delhi Capitals of the Indian Premier League, and following England’s most recent series victory over Sri Lanka, he disclosed that he has been receiving offers.
He did contribute to the team’s advancement to the 2020 summit match, although not entirely. Taking centre stage, he declared that long-term coaching positions no longer appealed to him, particularly in international cricket. All he wanted was to be around his family as much as possible.
“At this time, I’m not in a position to work internationally. I haven’t wanted to be this busy during the past two years. I had a great time coaching in the MLC this year as well. I’ll keep doing that. In just three and a half weeks, Ponting stated on the podcast for Sky Sports.
After playing with the Delhi Capitals for a number of years, Ricky Ponting was unable to bring home a championship.
“I completed my contract with DC as well, so in the upcoming weeks, there may be further IPL opportunities. We’ll see,” he said again.
It is noteworthy that Ricky Ponting was mentioned as one of the possible candidates to succeed Rahul Dravid as India’s head coach. That, however, did not materialise since Gautam Gambhir was ultimately appointed.
In addition, Ponting was most recently the Major League Cricket (MLC) coach of the Washington Freedom. After Freedom’s head coach Greg Shipperd resigned after the debut season in 2023, the former captain was brought on board.

Ponting, who is currently unemployed, made hints about returning to the Indian Premier League, but supporters are unsure of his future plans given that he was offered a head coaching position by a team.
