Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 13 runs at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, with Riyan Parag turning out to be the difference. After being ridiculed for a few seasons, the young player proved his mettle by demonstrating exceptional performance to lead Rajasthan to victory in their opening IPL 2024 encounter.
Notably, the hosts were in difficulty at one point when they were 36/3 batting first. Sanju Samson, the captain, appeared pallid, and openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler were unable to cause any damage. But Parag took care of business shortly after they were dismissed, smashing 84 runs in 45 deliveries to help Rajasthan score 185 runs. Rajasthan gained a lot of momentum because to the noteworthy cameo of 29 runs off 19 deliveries from Ravichandran Ashwin.
David Warner and Mitchell Marsh got off to a strong start in the pursuit, but things quickly became more challenging after he was let out. Warner and Rishabh Pant both struggled to hit boundaries as strike rate became a major problem. Both cricket players lost their wickets as the pressure mounted. After that, RR’s Avesh Khan and Sandeep Sharma struck brilliantly to take the team home despite a fantastic knock of 44 runs off 23 deliveries by Tristan Stubbs.
1. A star is created
To put it mildly, Riyan Parag was amazing. It took him some time to calm down, but once he did, the young man caused chaos across Jaipur. He scored twenty-five runs in the last over of the first innings against Anrich Nortje, among other boundary-shattering feats. At one point, it seemed impossible, but that helped Rajasthan score a healthy 185 runs.

2. A problem for Delhi is the strike rate
It’s a little worrying that Delhi didn’t appear at ease during the middle of the game. The team needs to work on this area before their next game, as Rishabh Pant and David Warner had trouble hitting boundaries. In T20 cricket, Rishabh’s strike rate has always been a problem, so he needs to improve.
3. The highlight of the show was the RR bowlers.
Against Delhi, the bowlers from Rajasthan were outstanding. Sandeep Sharma was outstanding and was one of the pacers, even though he gave up 36 runs in his four overs. Nandre Burger started the second innings off brilliantly, Yuzvendra Chahal dominated the middle overs, and Sandeep and Avesh Khan finished strongly to secure the victory.

Definitely disappointed. Best thing we can do from this is learn from it. The bowlers did really well till 15-16 overs, batters sometimes go on at the death and score quickly, that happened in this game. Marsh and Warner gave a good start, but we lost a few wickets in the middle overs and in the end we had too many runs to cover up. There are other options, we wanted Nortje to bowl at the death and sometimes you can go for runs, hopefully we can do better in the next match.

The way we started, the first ten overs, we were like Rovman, be ready you might have to bat! The IPL is changing and we all have to be flexible. Earlier it was about 11 players, now it is about all 15 players. Me and Sanga had a lot of chat between 15th and 17th over before deciding the Impact Player.
It’s all about gauging in which zone they are. You have to look at that and take your decision. I saw Sandy was calm and Avesh was also looking good, so i went with that. Riyan Parag has been a big name in the last few years. Wherever I go, people ask me about him. There is something very special he can give to Indian cricket

Emotions are settled, mum’s here as well. She’s seen the struggles, this feels special. I know what my ability is and I never let that change – irrespective of whether I perform or not. A lot to do with the domestic season, where I scored a lot of runs. Someone in the top four has to take it deep. First match, Sanju bhaiya did it, today I did it. I had to work very hard. I was on bed in the last three days. I could manage it today.
