At the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh, on Saturday, March 23, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated the Delhi Capitals (DC) by four wickets to begin their IPL 2024 campaign. Shai Hope (33 off 25) and Abhishek Porel (32*) contributed well, as did DC, who batted first and amassed a respectable score of 174/9 in their allotted 20 overs.
With outstanding strikes from Sam Curran (63 off 47) and Liam Livingstone (38* off 21), Punjab was able to chase down the score in 19.2 overs in response. As a result, the Shikhar Dhawan-captained team scored two crucial points early in the season.

David Warner (29 off 21) and Mitchell Marsh (20 off 12), who were assigned to bat first, gave their Delhi side a rapid start, scoring 39 runs off of just 20 balls. 2. Tristan Stubbs is dismissed by Shashank Singh with a stunning long-off.
Stubbs attempted to settle at the crease as Delhi, trailing by 111/5 after 13.2 overs, came to bat. But he could not muster much momentum in his innings and lofted Rahul Chahar high and wide to long off. To dismiss the South African batter, Shashank Singh, however, made a spectacular diving grab after covering good ground and running to his left.

3. A crucial knock by Ishan Porel saves Delhi’s innings.
In order to help Delhi add some significant runs down the order, the southpaw was added to the starting lineup as an impact player. After 19 overs, DC were 149/8, with just three runs scored in the penultimate over. Nevertheless, Porel scored 25 runs off the final over against Harshal Patel to boost DC’s total to 174/9 in their allowed 20 overs. Porel hit four fours and two sixes on 32 (10) to stay undefeated.

4. Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran secure the victory for Punjab
Punjab needed another 75 runs to win off 51 balls at 100/4 after 11.3 overs. Curran and Livingstone’s match-winning partnership of 67 (42) for the fourth wicket was what saved their team from the precarious scenario. Livingstone’s undefeated performance of 38* (21) saw his team cross the finish line, while Curran was dismissed on 63 (47), leaving Punjab only eight runs from victory.
