It’s time for fans of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to smile because the league will be back on December 19 in Dubai with its 2024 player auction. A total of 333 players will be up for grabs and compete in the 2024 edition of the lucrative league for the massive business event.
During the auction, a few teams will focus on a few gifted young players who have the potential to be big stars in the T20 tournament. It’s time to find out which five names will be included in the 2024 IPL auction before the big event in Dubai.
These are the five players that will be the youngest to bid in the 2024 Indian Premier League(IPL).
1. Harry Brook, 24
At INR 13.25 crore, England’s Harry Brook was Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) most expensive acquisition in the 2023 IPL auction. Due to his inability to perform up to par in the competition, the 24-year-old was cut from the Orange Army team prior to the IPL 2024 auction. In 11 games during his rookie season, he scored a pitiful 190 runs at an average of 123.38.
The England legend is predicted to do well in the next auction because he has put himself in the INR 2 crore price range. In Twenty20 Internationals (T20I), Brook has exceptional batting statistics. He has amassed 500 runs at an excellent strike rate of 139.27 for England in 26 matches.
Brook had a strong showing in the 2023 Hundred tournament, following a dismal IPL season. He finished as the third-leading run scorer in the competition while playing for the Northern Superchargers. He scored 238 runs with an incredible strike rate of 196.69 in seven innings over eight games.
2. Rachin Ravindra, 24
Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand made a big impression at the 2023 World Cup with his bat. After finishing 10 games with 3 tons, 2 fifties and 578 runs, the southpaw finished as the fourth-highest run scorer in the huge tournament. There have been discussions on his involvement in the 2024 Indian Premier League auction following his World Cup batting feats.
The auction will see the announcement of Ravindra’s name and his base price of INR 50 lakh, but the franchisees are anticipated to engage in a fierce bidding war for him. Buyers will be willing to pay a premium price for him after observing his superiority over bowlers at the 2023 World Cup in India.
Though Ravindra hasn’t played much T20I cricket, he will be among the youngest players in the auction, so it may not hurt his chances of receiving a respectable price. During his 18 T20I matches, the Kiwi mainstay amassed 145 runs at a lackluster strike rate of 117.88.
3. Gerald Coetzee, 23
Gerald Coetzee joined South Africa’s roster for the 2023 World Cup following the injury to Anrich Nortje. He grabbed hold of this fantastic opportunity and went on to become the Proteas’ top wicket-taker, amassing 20 wickets at an economy of 6.23 in eight games.
Coetzee hopes to play in the 17th IPL season in India in 2024 after his incredible World Cup success. The 23-year-old will participate in the business event as the third youngest player after submitting his name for the next auction. His base fee is INR 2 crore, but he might make a lot more because of his talent.
The SA20 League right-arm bowler bowls for the Johannesburg Super Kings, and in the tournament’s 2023 season, he turned up an outstanding bowling performance. He finished as the third-leading wicket-taker in the championship after taking 17 wickets at an economy of 8.07 in nine games. By the end of the year, he might receive a large contract because of his outstanding job in 2023.
4. Mujeeb Ur Rahman, 22
After three years away, Afghanistan’s premier spin bowler, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, is hoping to return to the IPL.
2018 saw the 17-year-old Mujeeb make a spectacular entrance into the lucrative league. He finished as the second-leading wicket-taker for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the championship with 14 wickets in 11 games at a frugal economy of 6.99.
His decline began in the league following the incredible season, and it has now been more than two years since he was left off of the main T20 tournament roster. Mujeeb is the second-youngest participant in the auction, having registered his name for it.
The initial price of INR 2 crore for the 22-year-old could deter purchasers from bidding at the auction. The off-break bowler hasn’t shown much of an impact with the ball in the T20 and international circuits lately, so teams may be hesitant to spend more than $1 crore on him.
5. Rehan Ahmed, 19
The youngest player in the auction will be 19-year-old leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed of England. With a reserved price of INR 50 lakh, his name will be put up for auction. In the 2023 Hundred competition, the youthful player demonstrated his bowling prowess. He took nine wickets in nine games at a frugal economy of 6.96 in challenging English conditions.
He may be deadly against batsmen in India’s twisting tracks if he uses his leg-break bowling ability. In his three T20I appearances while wearing the England jersey, the youthful player has claimed three wickets at an incredible economy rate of 7.11.
Prior to the auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) released former spin bowling standout Wanindu Hasaranga. Rehan Ahmed might catch their eye at the next big event because the team needs to fill the position of the frontline spinner.
