A technical error on the website of the International Cricket Council (ICC) caused Team India’s name to appear at the top of the rankings for Test teams. This happened just before India was scheduled to host a four-match Test series against Australia.
The ICC Test rankings typically only shift after the conclusion of each series, and neither Australia nor India are currently participating in any of those series.
The rankings were most recently adjusted on January 8, 2023, following Australia’s 2-0 victory over South Africa in a three-match series that was played in Australia.
The team that is led by Pat Cummins is currently in first place in the table, which has a total of 126 rating points; the team that is in second place is Team India, which has 115 rating points.
Despite this, there was reportedly a technical problem on the ICC system, which allowed India to surpass Australia in the Test rankings.
Fans captured screenshots of the standings and posted them on Twitter, but the error only lasted for two hours before Australia restored their position at the top of the standings.
According to the screenshots that supporters have posted, India has maintained their rating point, but has risen to the top of the rankings because Australia has dropped 15 points.
Additionally, South Africa, who were previously placed fourth, fell to the fifth spot, and the West Indies moved up from the eighth position to the sixth spot.
During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which will begin on February 9, India, on the other hand, will have the opportunity to surpass Australia and take first place.
Both the home side and the away side have named their respective 18-man squads for the first two tests of the series. The home team will play the first two matches.
