Team India has won twice in a row in the past two days. Rohit Sharma chose to bat first after winning the toss on a surface that was conducive to spin bowling, taking advantage of the powerplay. The captain himself made the decision to pursue the Lankan pacers, and he eventually scored a brilliant fifty to get the Men in Blue off to a flying start. But as soon as the ball began to spin, Sri Lanka recovered, with Charith Asalanka and Dunith Wellalage both taking four and five wickets, respectively. With a fantastic performance, Sri Lanka bowled out India for 213 runs.
In the chase, Sri Lanka lost a few wickets quickly because to Jasprit Bumrah outstanding performance with the new ball. Then, Dhananjaya de Silva and Dunith Wellalage formed a significant partnership that might have given them the victory, but Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja took a combined six wickets to annihilate the Lankan batting order and aid India in winning by 41 runs. With the victory, India also attained qualification for the 2023 Asia Cup finals.
Talking points for the game between Sri Lanka and India
Rohit’s third consecutive half-century
Three consecutive half-centuries by Indian captain Rohit Sharma is a really encouraging development in front of the ODI World Cup 2023. He established the tone for the game, and as a result, the Men in Blue were able to score 213 runs, which was tremendously helpful for the national team.
The skill of Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep took five wickets against Pakistan on Monday before taking four against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. He is currently in excellent shape, which can only help his confidence going into the 2023 ODI World Cup and Asia Cup final.
Dunith Wellalage is the main character.
Dunith Wellalage has consistently been the star, whether using the bowl or the bat. The 20-year-old batsman scored 42 runs off of 46 balls while taking five wickets, keeping the team in the game. Unfortunately, Sri Lanka lost the game by 41 runs as wickets continued to fall at the other end.
Dasun Shanaka, the outgoing captain, said:
We didn’t expect this kind of wicket, I thought it was a batting wicket but we adjusted well, especially Wellalage, DDS and Asalanka. The luxury of two genuine batters, they have been bowling in the nets and I know their real potential, today I had the option of using them today. Seeing the last game against Bangladesh I knew he (Wellalage) would do something special today, he took Kohli’s wicket and I was pretty sure it was his day and will take a couple more wickets.
