On Tuesday, December 12, the Junior Selection Committee of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) revealed the U-19 men’s team for the forthcoming ICC Men’s U19 World Cup 2024 and the tri-series in South Africa. The tri-series, which will include South Africa, England, and India, will start on December 29, 2023, and end on January 10, 2024, with the final.
After the tri-nation tournament, India’s U-19 team will begin preparing for the crucial U-19 World Cup, which will also be held in South Africa starting on January 19 and include the first match between Ireland and the USA. Notably, India has been grouped with Bangladesh, Ireland, and the United States of America in Group A of the competition.
The Men in Blue will take on Bangladesh in Bloemfontein on January 20, 2024, to kick off their campaign. On January 25 and 28, respectively, they will square off against Ireland and the United States.
Four groups of sixteen teams total will compete in the event. The top three teams from each group will advance to the Super Six stage after the conclusion of the group stage, where the top four teams will advance to the semifinals. Willowmoore Park in Benoni, which is also the site of the two semi-finals, will host the competition’s final on Sunday, February 11.
In the history of the U-19 World Cup, India has had the most successful squad.
Notably, Australia has won the U-19 World Cup five times, after reigning champions India, who have won it the most times—five times in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018, and 2022. South Africa has held the major event twice before, in 1998 and 2020; therefore, this will be its third time hosting it.
The participating teams will also play two warm-up matches between January 13 and 17 in advance of the tournament’s 15th edition.
