Director of Cricket for the Rajasthan Royals, Kumar Sangakkara, has backed India to have a strong tournament in the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024. The Men in Blue are scheduled to take on Ireland in New York on June 5th in the major event.
The former captain of Sri Lanka claimed that India has a well-rounded team with players of distinction in every position. Additionally, Sangakkara predicted that captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid would have the flexibility to use two or three different lineups, depending on whether they preferred to bowl more or bat with greater depth.
“This is an incredibly talented team. Their all-rounders are in, and they have their batting covered. On Wednesday, the eve of Rajasthan’s match against Hyderabad, Sangakkara stated, “They have very good combinations that they can play and very high-quality spin.”

Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma undoubtedly have a solid concept of the team composition that will allow them to play the style of cricket they desire in the World Cup, given the conditions there. They’ll also have two or three distinct lineups based on whether they prefer stronger bowling or a deeper hitting lineup. However, he said, “It’s a pretty powerful group that is well-balanced, and India has traditionally performed well in international competitions.
India’s team for the major event includes three Rajasthan Royals players: captain Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Avesh Khan, another Royals player, has been placed in the reserves.
In the meantime, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 points standings currently have the reigning champions at the top. Before the World Cup squad was announced, Sangakkara praised the players for maintaining their focus throughout the franchise league.
“We are quite pleased with the players that have succeeded. They’ve put in a ton of work. I can see where their thoughts would have been up until the big reveal. The players deserve a lot of credit for their efforts to block out all of that and perform well in the IPL. They found success with that,” he remarked.
