It appears that Gautam Gambhir will be the next head coach of India. He is said to have just gone to a shoot in Eden Gardens to say goodbye to his supporters in the City of Joy.
Following the team’s victory in the T20 World Cup in 2024, Rahul Dravid’s stint as head coach of the Indian cricket team came to an end.
The overwhelming favourite to succeed Dravid has been Gambhir. WV Raman, a different competitor, may finish second in the race after impressing the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with his presentation.
Although Gambhir’s appointment has not yet received official confirmation from the BCCI, a recent action by the former opener has almost guaranteed where he will play next in Indian cricket. A Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) official has reportedly confirmed that Gambhir attended a “farewell shoot” on Friday, July 5, at the renowned Eden Gardens. This information was reported in Times Now.
Under condition of anonymity, the official stated, “It was a low-key affair, but Gambhir wanted to bid goodbye to his fans with a message and that is why they shot a video at the Eden.”
It is said that Gambhir’s personal squad, not his IPL team, the Kolkata Knight Riders, shot the footage. The purpose of the video is apparently to showcase Gambhir’s tenure at KKR, including his most recent assignment as the team’s mentor for the IPL 2024 season. Prior to the 2024 IPL season, the 42-year-old was appointed as the team’s mentor. He performed admirably in his first year in the position, helping the Shreyas Iyer-led team to a decisive championship.

The video is anticipated to be made public following the official announcement of Gambhir’s appointment as Team India’s new head coach. The new head coach will oversee Team India’s visit of Sri Lanka, which will include three One-Day Internationals and as many Twenty20 Internationals, as BCCI secretary Jay Shah had already stated. In a five-match Twenty20 International series, the Men in Blue are currently playing Zimbabwe, with VVS Laxman, the head coach of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, leading the team.
