The United States and the West Indies will host the much-awaited ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which takes place from June 4 to June 30. Notably, the United States has never before been awarded the privilege of co-hosting an ICC T20 World Cup competition. The current winners, England, defeated Pakistan in the previous edition’s Australian final to claim the title. It is anticipated that Barbados will play host to the ICC tournament final.
While the Super 8 games will take place in the Caribbean country, Team India is anticipated to play its group stage matches in the United States. There are reports that India vs. Ireland will be the tournament’s first match on June 5. Meanwhile, June 9 is probably the date of India’s crucial matchup with Pakistan, one of its bitter rivals. In addition, on June 12, India will play the USA in New York. For their last group stage match, they will then fly to Florida to play Canada.
The ICC T20 World Cup teams, format, and qualifying scenario
Four groups of five teams each will be formed from the 20 qualifying sides. The top two teams from each group move on to the Super 8 phase, where they are split into two groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each of the two groups in the Super 8 round will also advance to the knockout round, which consists of two semifinals and a championship match.
The two hosts and the top eight teams from the previous tournament automatically advanced to the upcoming competition. The first two teams to qualify from the Europe qualifier are Ireland and Scotland. In July 2023, Papua New Guinea will qualify via the East Asia-Pacific qualifier. After beating Bermuda in their last Americas Qualifier match in October 2023, Canada earned their spot. Nepal and Oman qualified as they advanced to the Asia Qualifier final after a month. After placing first and second in the Africa Qualifier, Namibia and Uganda were the final two teams to advance.
