The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), the highest cricketing authority in India, revealed the schedule for Team India’s (Senior Women) forthcoming three-match ODIs against New Zealand Women on Monday. The series is a part of the ICC Women’s Championship and will be contested in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
The board used their social media accounts to formally announce the news. Interestingly, the series will start shortly after the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 match concludes. Since the home team will be playing the hosts of the ODI World Cup in a few months, the limited-overs series will be very important.
The first ODIs is scheduled to begin on Thursday, October 24, with Harmanpreet Kaur leading the Women in Blue. In addition, the follow-up will feature two more ODI matches.
In the meantime, India Women’s defeat to Australia on Sunday in a pivotal match was a blow. Therefore, unless Pakistan defeats New Zealand by a significant margin, it is quite doubtful if they will make it to the semifinals. But for a determined New Zealand team hoping to guarantee their spot in the 2025 ODI World Cup, these ODI matches will be just as crucial. Therefore, both sides will benefit in the future from honing talents and getting lots of experience in Indian conditions.
It’s interesting to note that the two countries’ men’s and women’s teams will play each other. The senior men of India will also play the men’s squad of New Zealand, but in red-ball cricket. The three Test matches they will play are set to start in Bengaluru on October 16. Only Australia, England, and South Africa have secured spots for the prestigious event thus far, aside from the hosts of the forthcoming ODI World Cup.

Because of their positions in the Women’s Championship, which is how the qualifiers are obtained, the Kiwi Women are still pursuing their goal.
