At the R. Premadasa stadium on Wednesday, India and Sri Lanka were playing their final ODI. Charith Asalanka, the captain of Sri Lanka, has been fortunate to win the toss in each of the series’ three games. Having won the toss, Sri Lanka elected to bat first and amassed 248 runs in the 50 overs given, losing seven wickets along the way.
There was just one alteration made by the hosts: Maheesh Theekshana replaced Akila Dananjaya. Following a 21-month hiatus, India’s Rishabh Pant returned to the One-Day International scene, taking KL Rahul’s spot. Arshdeep Singh was replaced by Riyan Parag, who was playing in his first One-Day International.
The conditions were set up for Sri Lanka to amass a daunting total by two significant partnerships. Nevertheless, Riyan Parag intervened forcefully, stopping the Lankans’ momentum by removing Avishka Fernando for 96 and LBW for Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka. After a disastrous collapse in the middle order, Sri Lanka finished their innings at 248/7, thanks to a late 23-run blow from Kamindu Mendis. Even though every spinner performed brilliantly, Parag stood out as the most productive bowler, claiming three wickets while showcasing his abilities.
Rohit Sharma lead India’s powerplay and unleashed another ferocious attack. However, the same scenario occurred, with his teammates succumbing to the unrelenting spin attack of the Sri Lankans. The Indian innings was severely harmed by the ongoing wicket loss.

With the eighth wicket falling at 101 runs, four middle-order and lower-order batsmen were unable to score in double digits. Even though Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav gave it their all, they were ultimately unable to save India from losing by 110 runs. This loss was a historic victory for Sri Lanka since it was their first bilateral series win over India since 1997.
