Thursday, June 27, at Providence Stadium in Georgetown, Guyana, saw the match between India and England in the second semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2024.
English captain Jos Buttler choose to bowl first, therefore India was asked to set a target. Neither England nor India made any alterations to their starting eleven before taking the pitch. There were a few rain-related delays to the game.
After being placed in to bat first, Virat Kohli (9 off 9) hit a spectacular no-look six off Reece Topley’s bowling to find himself back in the dugout. The attack was maintained by Indian captain Rohit Sharma (57 off 39), who was destroying the England bowlers with great ease. Rishabh Pant, who alternates as a wicketkeeper and batsman, did not give Sharma any support as he was removed from the game with just four runs scored. The scorecard for India at the conclusion of the powerplay read 46/2.

Suryakumar Yadav (47 off 36) provided Rohit some company to control the run-flowing rate. A crucial 73-run partnership was sewed together by both bats to keep the pressure on the other squad. In addition, Sharma became the fifth Indian captain to reach 5000 runs in all competitions.
In the finals, South Africa will play India.
Together with a late burst of 10 runs from Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya (23 off 13) and Ravindra Jadeja (17 off 9) helped India post 171/7 in the 20 overs they were given. Chris Jordan was the main ball-scraper for the reigning champions, taking three vital wickets.
In response, England entered the race to try and replicate the historic victory over India in the semifinal match. With the new ball in hand, Jos Buttler and Phil Salt, the opening pair, began cautiously as they showed respect for the Indian bowlers.
However, Jasprit Bumrah took the first wicket, dismissing Salt after just five runs. Before the powerplay ended, Buttler and Jonny Bairstow (23 off 15) discovered that they were back in the pavilion. The score of 49/5 in less than nine overs put the previous champions in jeopardy. Jofra Archer (21 off 15) and Harry Brook (25 off 19) attempted to pull their side back into the game, but were unable to do so as Indian bowlers continued to apply pressure.
In the end, the Men in Blue defeated England by 68 runs after dismantling their whole lineup. Player of the Match went to Axar Patel for his outstanding 3/23 spell. India and South Africa will now square off at the summit on June 29 in Barbados.
