A three-match ODI series between Bangladesh and New Zealand is currently being played at home.
Bangladesh made the decision to rest several of the players who were scheduled to travel to India to compete in the major event in the first two ODIs against the Black Caps because the ODI World Cup starts in a month.
New Zealand defeated Australia by 86 runs in the second game, while the first game finished in a tie. The team’s initial few games were led by Litton Das. Najmul Hossain Shanto, who led Bangladesh in runs scored in the 50-over format in 2023, will assume the leadership responsibilities for the third ODI, which will be played in Mirpur on Tuesday.
Litton was rested for the decisive match against New Zealand, along with other World Cup hopefuls Tamim Iqbal and Mustafizur Rahman. As Soumya Sarkar, Nurul Hasan, and Khaled Ahmed moved to the side, individuals like Mushfiqur Rahim, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful Islam returned. Tamim said following the second ODI that he was in pain following a back issue. According to reports, Litton has been experiencing the affects of the viral fever he had last month.
During the Asia Cup, Shanto injured his hamstring, preventing him from competing in the Super Four stage. Along with players like Mushfiqur, Mehidy, Taskin, and Shoriful, he will seek to play in few games before the World Cup. With a spirit-boosting victory over India, Bangladesh concluded their Asia Cup campaign. In order to go into the upcoming championship game with some assurance, they will try to tie the series with the Kiwis.
On October 7 in Dharamsala, the Bangla Tigers play their opening World Cup match against Afghanistan. Prior to this match against Sri Lanka on September 29 and England on October 2, Shakib Al Hasan and company will play a few warm-up games.
