During a Big Bash League encounter that took place on Saturday, the batter for England, Joe Clarke, smashed a ball so hard that it touched the ceiling of the covered stadium. This occurrence is among the rarest of the rare.
The occurrence took place with one ball remaining in the third over at Docklands Stadium during a match between the Melbourne Stars and the Melbourne Renegades. The Stars were attempting to get 163 runs.
Will Sutherland’s delivery to Clarke outside the off stump was travelling at 129.1 kilometres per hour. Clarke was going for a back-of-a-length delivery, but he botched his timing and it didn’t work out.
However, he hit the ball with an incredible amount of force, which caused it to travel a considerable distance in the air before colliding with the top of the stadium and landing somewhere in the vicinity of the mid-wicket zone.
Clarke was given a six since the regulations of the BBL required it. You may view the occurrence here:
Clarke had an outstanding batting performance, scoring 59 runs off of 37 balls with the help of two fours and five sixes.
It is noteworthy to note that a similar incident occurred again in the game when Beau Webster’s stroke hit the ceiling of the stadium on the bowling of Tom Rogers. This time, it was on the bowling of Tom Rogers. The 16th over had just begun, and this was the first ball of the over.
The Stars opened the match by winning the toss and deciding that they would bowl first in the match. Within the allotted quota of 20 overs, the Renegades scored 162 runs with seven wickets remaining.
Sam Harper was their leading run scorer with 51 off of 36 balls, and Jonathan Wells hit a 44 off of 24 balls to lead the team in batting average. Bowlers Liam Hatcher and Brody Couch were the most successful for the Stars, posting scores of 2/34 and 2/40, respectively, in their games.
