The Indian cricket team got off to a strong start in their preparations for the 2023 ODI World Cup by completing a three-match series against New Zealand with a perfect 3-0 record.
The likes of Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma were the standout performers with the bat, and the spinner Kuldeep Yadav wowed many people as well.
When it came to fast bowling, Mohammed Siraj was the one who, in all likelihood, stood head and shoulders above the competition.
However, Sanjay Manjrekar, a former cricketer for India, was taken aback by the fact that very little was said about Siraj during the post-match presentation that took place after the third one-day international had been played.
During an interview that aired on Star Sports, Manjrekar heaped extra praise on Siraj, praising him for being able to produce the goods for India on a constant basis.
“In the discussion that followed the game, he was barely brought up. Rarely brought up in conversation. But there are times when I have to focus on one player who has a lot of potential.
One participant whose development has been truly remarkable. This is a term that I’ve used quite a few times.
At this point, he appears to be a seam bowler through and through. And that reveals a great deal not only about this particular format but also about any performance. In Twenty20 Internationals as well as Test Matches, “Following the conclusion of the award presentation ceremony, Manjrekar made the following statement.
Siraj finished the series with 5 wickets to his name while averaging an impressive 11.20 runs per wicket. Siraj only played in two of the team’s three One-Day International matches, while other players, like as Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur, collected a greater number of wickets than he did (6 apiece).
“Shubman Gill scored a perfect 200 points out of 200 possible. When you consider the level of the opponent, as well as the fact that they are the best in the world, this is a really high-pressure encounter.
India believes they have located a person in Mohammed Siraj who will be available to them at any time they require him “Manjrekar stated.
In what appeared to be an effort to keep Siraj healthy for the forthcoming four-match Test series against Australia, Siraj was given a day off from playing in the third and final One-Day International of the series.
