In the T20 World Cup 2024, team captain Rohit Sharma of India guided his team to victory. India, who went undefeated the entire tournament, took the lead and emerged victorious, capturing their first ICC title since 2013.
The crowd went into tears as Rohit Sharma said following the match that he would be retiring from Twenty20 international cricket effective immediately and expressed his pride in his journey.
In addition, Rohit shared a photo of himself on Instagram, showing off his enormous smile following the title victory, as he lay down on the ground. “This photo perfectly captures my current state of mind. There are so many things I want to say about yesterday, but I can’t quite find the appropriate ones. Still, I will, and I will share them, but for now, I’m just enjoying a dream that a billion people can finally realise,” Rohit said as the description for the photo.

It’s difficult to summarise our experiences: Rohit Sharma
In the final of the T20 World Cup, the Indian side triumphed over South Africa. Heinrich Klaasen’s assault appeared to be tipping the odds in favour of the Proteas at one stage. But Rohit and company’s tactical masterclass, along with superb bowling, helped India win the tournament and win the match by seven runs.
Rohit Sharma spoke during the post-match presentation ceremony following the game, sharing his thoughts on the past few years for his team. Having lost multiple championship matches, the Men in Blue have at last ascended to the top and officially declared themselves the global champions.

Summarising the experiences of the past three to four years is difficult. Many behind the scenes activities are from our past, not from now. Numerous games with a lot of pressure, and we’ve lost them all. “Guys know when the chips are down and today was a prime example of that, stuck together with our backs against the wall,” Rohit remarked.
