The ILT20 team MI Emirates has appointed Mitchell McClenaghan, a former cricket player from New Zealand, as their new bowling coach. McClenaghan, an IPL four-time champion with the Mumbai Indians, will be taking on a crucial new position in the coaching staff.
Under Robin Singh, the team’s head coach, Mitchell McClenaghan, will be employed.
Singh took over for former Kiwi pacer Shane Bond, who was playing for the Paarl Royals in the SA20, when Bond resigned from the same position in the UAE.
As the team’s batting coach, former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja has also joined MI Emirates. James Franklin, the fielding coach, and assistant coach Vinay Kumar will remain in their positions from the ILT20’s first season.
MI Emirates hopes to expand following its near-miss in 2023.
Looking ahead, MI Emirates will be hoping for a repeat performance in the ILT20 season, which is scheduled to start on January 19. The Gulf Giants, who went on to win the tournament, eliminated the team in Qualifier 2, and they just missed out on the competition’s championship match in the first season.
MI Emirates will play their season opener on January 20 against the Dubai Capitals at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Nicholas Pooran, a West Indies native who previously played for Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20, will be leading the team.
