Former BCCI president and Indian captain Sourav Ganguly stated that he thought India would win the current Test series. He declared with confidence that India will win the series, saying the only question was whether the score would be 4-0 or 5-0 in India’s favor. Sourav Ganguly emphasized the value of batting in India and hypothesized that the series would have been altered had England scored more in their opening innings.
Ollie Pope showed his genius by hitting an incredible 196 off 278 balls in the first Test match between India and England in Hyderabad, giving England a fighting chance. After ending their second innings at 420, England gave the Indian squad a target of 230.
“The series will be won by India; the question is whether they will win 4-0 or 5-0. Each test will have finality. If England had batted effectively, they could have won this Test match. Making 230 or 240 runs on Indian territory is insufficient to defeat India. They could have defeated India if they had scored 350 or 400, but they were unable to do so. For England, this series is difficult. Ganguly stated, as cited by Hindustan Times, “Any team other than the Australia of that era could not create any impact here.”
In addition, Ganguly offered his thoughts on England’s plan, predicting that the Bazball tactic would fail in India. He also said he didn’t think Bazball fit in well with the spinning wickets of the subcontinent.
India will have one more chance in the 2024 World Cup: Sourav Ganguly
Ganguly then turned his attention to the T20 World Cup, predicting that India would do well in this competition despite their recent setback to Australia in the ODI World Cup final. He expressed confidence that the IPL will be a useful prelude to the world event, acknowledging India’s strength and citing favorable circumstances in the West Indies and America.
“India is a strong contender for the T20 World Cup. India just competed in the World Cup final, and their defeat to Australia was heartbreaking. I didn’t think they would lose the tournament despite playing really well, but that’s what happens in sports,” he remarked.
“India is a very positive aspect. India will get another chance because the West Indies and America have similar conditions to those of India. The World Cup will be prepared for by the IPL,” he said in closing.
