Even though Lakshya Sen lost in the semifinals of the Paris Olympics 2024, she managed to receive a lot of accolades, along with a number of other athletes who won gold for India. The badminton player advanced to the semifinals by winning five straight games, and his sheer tenacity was praised. Viktor Axelsen, a Danish shuttler, ultimately defeated him. Lakshya made a joke about wanting to be the Virat Kohli of Indian badminton while the country was applauding his play.
The 23-year-old traded strikes with Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia during the Bronze Medal match. The Almora native took the lead in the opening game but ultimately fell short to exit the competition.
Lakshya is often compared to Virat Kohli, who famously hit a downhill stroke against Haris Rauf, with his no-look reverse backhand shot during one of his games. The shuttler laughed and said, “Why not?” after acknowledging the comparison.
Virat Kohli played a wild shot, and Lakshya Sen made an 18.5 of him. According to some, this was the badminton equivalent of Virat Kohli.
It’s an honour to be referred to as Virat Kohli in any sport, so would you accept that commendation?” enquired from Ranveer Allahabadia’s YouTube account.
“Why not, I mean, at the same time he has done a lot for Indian cricket, and yes I want to be the Virat Kohli of Indian badminton in the coming years,” said Senator.
