The gifted all-rounder Abhishek Sharma from Punjab has been playing quite well in 2024. Earlier in the season, he made history with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL). As a result of his outstanding performance, he was called up for the first time to the Indian team for the just finished T20I tour of Zimbabwe. On his debut, Abhishek scored a duck, but in his second game, he came back with a brilliant century.
Abhishek recently talked in an interview about the attention he’s been receiving from both male and female followers. According to the southpaw, he finds motivation in the love he receives from his fans.
Not only have women shown me a lot of attention, but men have shown me just as much. It was a really satisfying feeling. These are the kinds of events that inspire drive in any celebrity or cricket player. Speaking on the “Second Innings with Manjot Kalra” YouTube channel, Abhishek added, “I also received such attention from them and received good luck and congratulatory messages.”
In 14 games, Abhishek scored 484 runs with a strike average of 204.22 for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2024 Indian Premier League, propelling the Orange Army to the championship game. During the 17th season of the lucrative league, the 23-year-old said that captain Pat Cummins granted all of the players total freedom.
“He arrived subsequent to Australia’s World Cup triumph. Pat Cummins‘ presence was palpable among the team members. Speaking with each new player, he would enquire about their families and other personal matters. Abhishek said, “He gave everyone total freedom.”
When batting with Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma said, “There was never a moment where we thought that a particular bowling was troubling us.”
Together with Travis Head, Abhishek made up one of the strongest opening combinations in the IPL 2024. With their incredible variety of power striking, they put some of the best bowlers in the world of cricket to shame. According to Abhishek, they never felt pressured by a bowler during the season.
“I knew exactly how I wanted to use my bowlers: freely. Having studied Travis Head for a considerable amount of time, I was aware that he also plays similarly. But I had no idea that he would hit back if I did. We were able to adjust quite fast, and we never felt uncomfortable with any particular bowling,” Abhishek remarked.

Unfortunately, for the forthcoming series against Sri Lanka, the Amritsar native was unable to maintain his spot in India’s T20I team. Those who have witnessed him bat, though, will realise he possesses every quality needed for a lengthy career with the Men in Blue.
