Dinesh Karthik, a seasoned wicketkeeper and batter, said that Ravi Shastri had very little tolerance for failure while he was India’s head coach. Dinesh Karthik said that Ravi Shastri would drive players to achieve extraordinary things, but he had very little tolerance for failure. The 37-year-old has only participated in a few games here and there throughout Shastri’s time as India’s head coach, particularly during the 2019 World Cup. During their time together, Shastri and Kohli presided over a prosperous period for Indian cricket. Despite this, they were frequently criticised for failing to support a select group of players who, during difficult times in their careers, might have used a little more compassion.
“He (Shastri) had a very low tolerance for somebody who wouldn’t bat at a certain pace he did not like or someone who was doing very differently in the nets and in the match, he would go and bat differently,” Karthik said on the Cricbuzz docuseries ‘Summer Stalemate’. “He (Shastri) had a very low tolerance for somebody who wouldn’t bat at a certain pace he did not like or someone who was doing
“That is something that Shastri would not find to be very receptive of. Shastri had a little failure tolerance, but he was very clear about what he expected from the team and how he wanted it to play. He also knew exactly what he wanted from the team. He consistently encouraged others to perform to their full potential.” Karthik, who at the age of 36 is a designated finisher in the Twenty20 set-up, has already stated that he feels much more relaxed and safe in the T20 set-up since Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid have taken over as captains.
Under Shastri’s leadership, India not only won two test series on Australian territory, but they also tied the test series 2-2 in England and made it all the way to the final of the World Test Championship. Shastri’s coaching career was a huge success.
“My opinion is that Shastri, the player, was somebody who perhaps did not have as much talent but who realised his talent as a coach. He performed really well in comparison to what was anticipated of him. He was a larger-than-life figure in the coaching profession. He was the kind of person that inspired athletes to strive for greatness and accomplish it “he continued.
