Recently, Yasir Hameed, Mohammad Sami, and Haroon Rashid appointed Kamran Akmal to the National Men’s Selection Committee, with Haroon Rashid serving as chairman.
Kamran Akmal, a Pakistani right-handed wicketkeeper and hitter, declared his retirement from all forms of the game. The 41-year-old claimed his current attention is on his new positions with the Pakistan Cricket Board. Along with Yasir Hameed and Mohammad Sami, he most recently served on the National men’s selection committee, which was presided over by Haroon Rashid.
At a press conference in the port city, Akmal announced his resignation. In addition, he stated that he would play in minor leagues based on the duties assigned by the PCB. Naturally, I won’t be playing cricket any longer due to my responsibilities with PCB, Akmal declared.
The right-handed hitter has played for Pakistan in 53 Tests, 157 ODIs, and 58 T20Is, totaling 6871 runs with six Test hundreds and five ODI hundreds. In the Pakistan Super League, he is also the second-highest run scorer with 1,972 runs scored in 74 innings at an average of 27.38 and a strike rate of 136.94.
Earlier, Kamran’s brother Umar Akmal expressed optimism for his brother’s tenure as the national selector and claimed that he is well-versed in the game and will provide players with fair opportunities. “Kamran has always treated me and the other cricket players with great kindness. He is a teacher to all. He will give players fair chances, I’m confident of that. I wish him luck,” Umar remarked in an interview with Geosuper.tv, as quoted by The News from Pakistan.
The board’s choice to name Kamran as the head of the selection committee, which would choose the players in trials for the U-13, U-16, and U-19 regional and district teams, was supported by former Pakistani captain Shahid Afridi as well. “Kamran is sincere and diligent. He seems like a great pick for choosing junior-level athletes, in my opinion. He is fearless and won’t buckle under pressure while choosing the players, “Afridi made this statement to a local TV station.
