It’s difficult to sum up MS Dhoni’s legend because he has been the Chennai Super Kings’ beating heart since their founding. He has skippered and guided the Men in Yellow to five victories throughout the years, which is comparable to what the Mumbai Indians have accomplished. After finishing his international career at the 2019 Cricket World Cup, he has turned his whole attention to the Indian Premier League.
He firmly declined retirement requests at the time, responding with a straightforward “Definitely Not”. He made the decision to play in the IPL for an additional year in honour of the Chennai supporters after winning the fifth title in Ahmedabad last year, setting a new record. Still, nobody knows what he has planned for the future save himself. As we approach the end of another IPL season, speculation about MS Dhoni’s future has once again surfaced.
While speaking on Star Sports’ Press Room show, former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh—who also played under Dhoni during the latter’s three-season (2018–20) spell with CSK—had his response ready to reveal.
Harbhajan even went so far as to claim that MS Dhoni was the owner of the franchise. In addition, he emphasised that he has always been the centre of attention for the team and that everything is centred around him, not to mention that he has sacrificed everything for the team. The prior administration expressed confidence that Dhoni would be a part of the CSK team in the upcoming seasons, either as a coach or a mentor. Noting his role as a mentor to other players in the prestigious team, Harbhajan expressed his belief that the team would not want to split ways with him, keeping him connected to the group in one way or another.
“He owns the team outright. Bhi nahi hilta bhi uske marzi ke bina waha patta. It’s his group. He has poured everything—blood, sweat, and tears—into this team. Whether in the role of coach or mentor, he will always be a part of the CSK team. There, he is everything.Throughout the upcoming seasons, you can expect to see him in the CSK dugout. He will be present with the players, even if it’s not as a player but in another role,” he continued.
Without a doubt, he will be present: Rayudu vs MS Dhoni
On the same talk programme as Harbhajan, Ambati Rayudu expressed her agreement wholeheartedly, repeating the latter’s conviction that MS Dhoni was the team’s leader and that the 42-year-old was the creator and mediator of the culture that CSK is renowned for having.
“Bhajji pa said it correctly! That is his group. He created the current culture that exists there. He has been developing players in that team, and Rayudu said, “He will undoubtedly be there.”
