The T20 World Cup 2024 was won on June 29, and shortly after, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli declared their retirement from the Twenty20 Internationals. When the two greatest players of all time made the decision to retire from the sport, the argument over who would succeed them erupted. Many have voiced their preferences, and former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has recommended Riyan Parag to take over Kohli’s middle-order duties and Yashasvi Jaiswal as Rohit’s replacement.
It is noteworthy that Virat and Rohit are still playing Tests and ODIs, with the former captaining the squad in both competitions. It is also important to note that Rohit and Jaiswal have established themselves as India’s go-to opening combination in Test matches, and they have performed admirably.
“Yashasvi is the player; he is truly exceptional.” He can, in my opinion, cover for Rohit Sharma as an opener. Naturally, it took more than a year for Rohit to become Rohit Sharma—Rohit himself had to go through a lengthy procedure. And Virat will become into Virat Kohli. Talking about replacing these two will not be a simple task. However, I am confident that among the talent we have in India, Riyan Parag is the middle order, and Yashasvi is the one.
Harbhajan Singh stated in an exclusive interview with while attending LLC.
“One such player who we can see helping India win games in the near future is Paragag. We have seen a lot of young people in the IPL. A new hero appears every season. They could become well-versed if they play more cricket, he continued.
In relation to Riyan Parag, the right-handed hitter made his debut for India during the T20I series in Zimbabwe in July. Despite his lacklustre performance at the bat, he was chosen for the next Sri Lanka tour.
