The Gujarat Titans captain, Shubman Gill, was fined for his team’s slow over rate on May 10 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad during an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against the Chennai Super Kings.
Gill was fined INR 24 lakhs because it was his team’s second infringement of the season pertaining to minimum over rate violations under the IPL’s Code of Conduct. Each of the remaining players in the playing eleven, including the Impact Player, received a fine of INR 6 lakhs or twenty-five percent of their respective match fees, whichever was smaller.
Because of his skill on the pitch, the GT captain was also named Player of the Match. He also hit a stunning century, his first of the season. Together with Sai Sudharsan, the openers shared a partnership of more than 200 runs, with both batsmen scoring hundreds. As a result, the hosts were able to set a target of 231/3 after 20 overs. Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali both scored fast half-centuries, but the Chennai Super Kings could only muster 196/8 in the chase.
Enjoy a strong friendship with Sai Sudharsan: Shubman Gill
Yes, that’s the only reason I’m off the field—a cramp. Getting assistance from 100,000 people makes things easier. Just the way it was free. We had no aims in mind when we were batting out there. We’re just making the most of the chances that are in front of us. We enjoy a strong sense of togetherness. We worked well together even the previous year. Great fun to bat with him. It is unquestionably the best starting partnership for GT in terms of numbers.
Over the past few years, Mohit Sharma bhai has taken care of this for us. He was a marvel with the ball even last year. Anyone can have two or three terrible games this year. We once believed that 250 was ours to take. They also bowled well in the final two or three overs. At the post-match celebration, the victorious captain stated, “I just felt we were 10-15 short—not in terms of the match, but in terms of the NRR going forward.”
