Glenn Maxwell, who has been with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) since the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, was not going to be retained. Among the numerous elite players up for grabs in the IPL 2025 mega-auction, which is anticipated to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on November 25 and 26, is the Australian all-rounder.
Using INR 37 crore, RCB only kept three players before the mega-auction: Yash Dayal (INR 5 crore), Rajat Patidar (INR 11 crore), and Virat Kohli (INR 21 crore). Three Right To Match (RTM) cards and INR 83 crore remain in the well-known franchise’s wallet. Recently, Maxwell shared how the franchise gave him an explanation for his termination. The 36-year-old stated that their approach to the matter impressed him.
“Mo Bobat and Andy Flower called me.” During a Zoom call, they gave me a brief explanation of the choice to not be retained. However, if it is possible, it was a truly lovely exit meeting. Our conversation lasted approximately thirty minutes, during which we discussed their strategy and their future goals. Thus, I was quite pleased with it,” Maxwell stated on the show Around the Wicket.
I wouldn’t consider my time with RCB to be over: Glenn Maxwell
Maxwell claimed that he was aware of RCB’s intentions for the upcoming season of the lucrative league. Additionally, he expressed his enjoyment of playing for the Bengaluru-based team and his desire to wear their uniform once more.
“Obviously, they were also altering a couple of their employees. So before they spoke to players, they had to take care of it. And it was clear to me that the process would require some time. However, Maxwell stated on the Around The Wicket show that “you’re always getting a little bit edgy about that, that last date about whether you’re going to be retained and not so sure what’s going to happen.”

“However, fully comprehend the path they are taking. To develop that core, they went with three unions. And yes, hopefully those locals can be complemented by those abroad. I would definitely love to return to RCB, but I wouldn’t say my adventure is ended. I had a terrific time playing for that franchise,” he continued.
Glenn Maxwell had a poor IPL 2024 season with RCB.
For those who don’t know, Glenn Maxwell’s IPL 2024 batting season was forgettable. He only managed 52 runs at a pitiful average of 5.78 and a miserable strike rate of 120.93 in 10 games.
