Ishan Kishan should be India’s first-choice opener in the One-Day International format alongside Rohit Sharma for the foreseeable future, according to former cricket player Gautam Gambhir. Kishan scored a career-high 210 runs in his most recent one-day international match, which took place against Bangladesh at Chattogram. This score was Kishan’s first one-day international century.
The wicketkeeper-batter became the player in the history of one-day internationals to achieve a double century in the fewest number of balls possible, which was 126. Kishan should keep playing the role of an opener, according to Gambhir, since that Shikhar Dhawan won’t be participating in the one-day internationals (ODIs).
“It blows my mind that we are even talking about this considering that someone scored a century in the innings before this one. The conversation has come to an end. Ishan Kishan is the only logical choice.
Someone who can get a hundred and a fifty in such conditions against a reasonable offence, particularly at home, ought to play.”
When asked who he would want to see as Rohit’s opening partner, Gambhir was quoted as saying the following, according to ESPNcricinfo.
Kishan was selected for India’s one-day international and Twenty20 international series against Sri Lanka, which will begin on January 3 and continue through January 15.
“What was his score when he was 35 strokes over par? You are not allowed to look at anyone other than Ishan Kishan. It is imperative that he be allowed more playing time.
Because he can also keep wickets, he can perform two tasks for you simultaneously. According to me, therefore, that conversation has no place in that setting. I suppose that if anybody else had gotten a hundred and a hundred, we would have gone crazy about that person, but that is not the case with Ishan Kishan. He did not get a hundred.
Because we keep going back to discussing the roles of other players. That argument is closed in my eyes at this point “Gambhir further remarked.
Gambhir believes that Suryakumar Yadav may still be a significant asset in the No. 4 position despite the fact that Yadav’s batting in the 50-over format has not been as remarkable as his efforts in the T20 format. Suryakumar has played in 16 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and has scored 384 runs with only two half-centuries.
“It is quite challenging to consider anyone other than Rohit and Ishan Kishan to start the batting, Virat at three, Surya at four, and Shreyas at five, due to the fact that he has been phenomenal over the course of the past one and a half years.
It is true that he has struggled against the short ball, but he has been able to overcome such difficulties. You can’t be the greatest at everything, but if you can handle it and have the numbers on your side, you can’t look much further than Shreyas [Pandya] at No. 5 and Hardik [Pandya] at No. 6 “Gambhir stated the following regarding his ideal India XI.
India’s team for Sri Lanka T20Is: Hardik Pandya (Captain), Ishan Kishan (wk), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav (VC), Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Sanju Samson, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, Umran Malik, Shivam Mavi and Mukesh Kumar.
India’s squad for Sri Lanka ODIs: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya (VC), Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh.
