Yash Thakur of the Lucknow Super Giants took 13 wickets in nine matches during the recently concluded Indian Premier League. He has been an integral part of the endeavour, bowling well in the powerplay, providing breakthroughs in the middle overs, and performing well in the death overs. Under Krunal Pandya’s direction, the cricketer was very aggressive with the ball, which ultimately helped him acquire confidence and perform well in the lucrative league.
In addition, while discussing his relationship with mentor Gautam Gambhir, the Kolkata-born cricketer remarked that the 41-year-old constantly focuses on obtaining trophies rather than simply participating in the sport. Thakur added that Gambhir established a fantastic atmosphere within the team by treating everyone equally in camp.
“I was extremely fortunate to share the locker room with Gautam Gambhir. His approach is very different; he constantly reminds us that we must win the trophy and that every game in the tournament is crucial. He ensured that both international and domestic players were treated equally within the team. The atmosphere he created in the team was commendable—how to work out our strategies, how to recover—we were like a family, Thakur told News18.
Thakur discusses the message Gautam Gambhir sent him before making his IPL debut.
Yash Thakur added that he has admired Gambhir since he was a juvenile, so he was apprehensive about playing under the guidance of the former cricketer. However, the 24-year-old stated that Gambhir’s encouragement prior to the season aided him throughout the season.
“When I was chosen in the auction, I was apprehensive about playing under Gautam Gambhir’s direction because I have admired him since I was a juvenile. I greatly admired his batting and captaincy. When I played my first game, he simply told me, “You are here because you have earned it.” “He advised me to play the game as I would any other domestic contest,” the pitcher said.
He was always available for a conversation whenever anyone needed him. He was available to us 24 hours a day, seven days a week. He did not act like a legend, but rather like one of them. Whenever we had free time during practice, he instructed us on various aspects of the game. His advice to remain calm stood out for me during the IPL,” Thakur concluded.
