Gautam Gambhir, a former opening batter for India, has named Hardik Pandya and Prithvi Shaw as two potential candidates for the position of skipper in the team moving forward.
It is easy to understand why Hardik would make this decision, considering he captained the Gujarat Titans to victory in the maiden season of the Indian Premier League. However, the selection of Shaw is unexpected given that he has not even competed for the nation since July of 2021.
On the other hand, Hardik is currently being considered as a potential successor to Rohit Sharma in the shortest version of the game.
After India’s defeat to England in the semi-final of the Twenty20 World Cup, there have been calls for Hardik to replace Rohit, at the very least in the game’s shortest format. The match in question took place in England.
“Hardik Pandya is, without a doubt, at the right spot. However, this will be unlucky for Rohit because I do not believe that his captaincy should be evaluated based on a single ICC competition because I do not believe that this is the right way to evaluate him “According to ESPNcricinfo’s reporting, Gambhir made these comments during a function that was hosted by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
Gambhir continued their discussion regarding Shaw by saying: “The reason I went with Prithvi Shaw is because I am aware that a lot of people discuss the things he does off the field; yet, it is the role of the coach and the selectors to make those decisions.
The work of the selectors is not limited to simply choosing the top 15, but also to guiding people in the proper direction.”
“Prithvi Shaw is one that I feel has the potential to be a very aggressive captain, a very successful captain because you see that aggression in the way a person plays the sport,” he continued. “This is because you can see that aggression in the manner that a person plays the sport.”
Recently, Shaw has fallen out of favour, and he has even had trouble earning a spot on the second-string Indian white-ball squad. Shaw has failed to obtain a position in the team. The batsman who bats right-handed was given a suspension for a doping violation in 2019, and ever since then, his physical condition has been the subject of intense scrutiny.
