With a T20 World Cup championship victory in Barbados on June 29, Rahul Dravid concluded his time as head coach. There are several rumours that Gautam Gambhir is going to take over for him. It is possible that the former India opener, who is leaving his team, the Kolkata Knight Riders, filmed a goodbye video at Eden Gardens.
Under Gautam Gambhir’s guidance, KKR won its third IPL championship in the 2024 season.
Only two applications, Gautam Gambhir and WV Raman, were interviewed for the role by the Cricket Advisory Committee, which consisted of Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape, and Sulakshana Naik. Numerous rumours indicate that Gambhir will take over as the Indian team’s next head coach. Before releasing the formal word, Gambhir and BCCI are reportedly negotiating the salary, according to reports from The Indian Express. About INR 12 crore was paid to Dravid annually for his coaching duties.

Notably, neither in the domestic leagues nor at the national level, has the former southpaw ever served as head coach. His resume includes being a mentor with the Lucknow Super Giants and, most recently, KKR. Before the IPL 2024, he had resigned from his position as a member of parliament to devote himself full-time to cricket.
With a new head coach, India will tour Sri Lanka.
For the five-match T20I series in Zimbabwe, the Indian second string is playing, with the majority of the players from the side that won the T20 World Cup taking time off. The Indian squad will next play a white-ball series in Sri Lanka, and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has revealed that the team will be accompanied by a new head coach. According to rumours, Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli would not be participating in the tour.
