One of the contenders to lead India’s bowling unit is Morne Morkel. Gautam Gambhir, the recently hired head coach of the Indian squad, has a lot of coaching experience and is a former South Africa pacer on his wish list. Months before his contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was about to expire, Morkel resigned from his position as coach of the Pakistani team at the ODI World Cup in India last year.
It is thought that Gambhir asked the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) to give Morkel, who participated in 86 Tests, 117 ODIs, and 44 T20Is between 2006 and 2018, consideration for the role of bowling coach. It can be confirmed by Cricbuzz that the South African, who is currently residing in Australia, has had some conversations.
While Gambhir was a two-year mentor for the Lucknow Super Giants IPL club, both Gambhir and Morkel are said to have had a cordial working relationship. After Gambhir left to join the Kolkata Knight Riders and head coach Andy Flower moved to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Morkel remained the team’s bowling coach under new head coach Justin Langer.
In the IPL and on the international scene, Morne Morkel has established a solid reputation as a successful coach.
Despite only retiring in 2018, Morkel, at 39, is still knowledgeable about the most recent strategies used in the game. It’s thought that Gambhir, who’s renowned for dealing with people he gets along with, is eager to have Morkel on his coaching staff.
The roles of bowling coach and Vinay Kumar have been associated with a number of persons. Additionally, reports indicate that Zaheer Khan is being considered for the position by the BCCI. Although a final decision has not yet been reached, it seems likely that the BCCI will make a decision shortly. Morkel’s young family and the lengthy travel needed for the India job are two factors to take into account. He resides in the opulent Seaforth neighbourhood of northern Sydney with his spouse, Channel 9 sports broadcaster Roz Kelly. The pair is parents to two kids.

Should Morkel be hired, he will take over for Paras Mhambrey, who has performed admirably in the position for the last three years under head coach Rahul Dravid. Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate are two more players whom Gambhir has recommended, as Cricbuzz has already reported, and the BCCI is reportedly eager to keep fielding T Dilip from the departing Dravid administration.
