In the most recent ICC player rankings, which were released on Wednesday, Indian batsmen Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill were recognised for their outstanding performances in the one-day international series played against New Zealand.
Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill both scored half-centuries in the series, which India lost 0-1 due to the rainout of the second and third games of the series. As a result of their performances, Iyer and Gill climbed six and three positions, respectively, to ascend to No. 27 and No. 34 spot, respectively.
Despite reaching fifty in the first game, Shikhar Dhawan fell two spots in the rankings, which is surprising given his performance.
Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma dropped one spot, moving from seventh to eighth and ninth, respectively, after being benched for the series.
Both Tom Latham and Kane Williamson, hitters for New Zealand, surged up the rankings this week.
In the inaugural one-day international match between New Zealand and India, which took place in Auckland, Latham impressed by scoring a century despite entering the game to bat at a vulnerable position, which enabled New Zealand to beat India’s total of more than 300 runs.
After scoring 145 runs not out off 104 balls, he moved up 10 spots to finish in 18th place.
After moving up one spot, Skipper Williamson became the tenth best player in the world. He did so by playing the ideal second fiddle in Auckland, shooting an unblemished 94 over 98 balls.
After posting scores of 3 for 59, Lockie Ferguson moved up three places in the bowling rankings, moving into the 32nd position. Because of his efficient bowling, Matt Henry moved up to the fifth slot in the rankings.
Because of Afghanistan’s impressive victory over Sri Lanka in the first one-day international match that was played in Pallekele, there was more movement in the rankings.
Both Centurion Ibrahim Zadran and fellow opening Rahmanullah Gurbaz achieved significant advancements in the batters’ rankings. Zadran moved up 73 spots to No. 122, and Gurbaz moved up 21 spots to No. 48.
The fifty that Rahmat Shah scored helped him move up to joint No. 22, and he is still the top-ranked ODI batsman for Afghanistan.
