Former India spinner tells NDTV that Deepak Chahar’s return will “not be easy.”

Maninder Singh, a former spinner for India, recently gave an interview to NDTV in which he discussed the impending series between India and Zimbabwe, as well as the decision to bench Virat Kohli for the three One-Day Internationals and the recall of Deepak Chahar to the team.

The three-match One-Day International series between India and Zimbabwe will get underway on August 18 in Harare. Team India will be led by KL Rahul. Several of India’s most experienced players, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Yuzvendra Chahal, have been benched for the series against Zimbabwe. Deepak Chahar, who was injured for the majority of the cricket season this year and was recently named to the squad, will play in the forthcoming series, and it will be intriguing to watch how he performs in the competition.

Maninder Singh, a former India spinner, recently had an interview with NDTV in which he discussed the impending series, the fact that Virat Kohli will be rested for the three One-Day Internationals, and Deepak Chahar’s return to the side.

“Yes, it has been a considerable amount of time since the last match, and Deepak Chahar has been sidelined due to injury. If you have been out for a significant amount of time due to an injury, making a comeback into international cricket is not an easy task. To begin, he would need to be treated with care, but I have no doubt that the management of the team would know when it was appropriate to use him and when it was inappropriate to use him. The youngster possesses a lot of talent, but it won’t be easy for him to make a comeback after being out for such a long time “Maninder told NDTV.

The former left-arm spinner responded as follows when asked about the decision to bench Virat Kohli for the series: “I have no doubt that the selectors and Virat Kohli exchanged some kind of word or message with one another. He is a phenomenal player, on par with the very best players in the world. If he felt the need for further rest, he should have informed the selectors of his situation. During the IPL, I had heard that he was spending hours practising his batting in the nets. However, what might happen is that if you are not in form and you keep pushing too hard, you will continue to make mistakes. And I believe that some of the best cricketers have acknowledged that he needs a break. For example, Virat Kohli must have arrived to the conclusion that I need to take a break from the game for three to four months so that I can return to it feeling refreshed.”

“There is no doubt that Virat Kohli is not only mentally very strong but also very fit physically. Mental strength is the most crucial ingredient when you are playing international cricket, and there is no doubt that Virat Kohli possesses a very strong mental game. It is only a matter of one innings, but if he has informed the selectors that he requires longer time off, then we should respect that and not play him “he continued.

Maninder also mentioned that Zimbabwe would be confident going into the series because they had a fantastic performance against Bangladesh and had won both the ODI and T20I series against Bangladesh.

“On paper, I continue to believe that the Indian team is in a far stronger position than the Zimbabwean team. After their victory over Bangladesh, Zimbabwe must be feeling pretty good about themselves right now. There is no question that the mentality of the Zimbabwe team has shifted, and while there is no question that they will present India with a challenge, I still consider India to be my favourite team “Maninder mentioned that the Sony Sports Network would be airing the series, which you can read about here.
