Wasim Jaffer, a former batsman for India, has pinpointed some of the factors that may be contributing to Team India’s inability to establish the correct combination in white-ball cricket.
Deepak Hooda is starting for Team India in place of Sanju Samson in the second One-Day International that is currently taking place against New Zealand. The decision to select a batter who can roll his arm over is being criticised on social media, but it does make some sense given that the team has made the choice to go for a batter with this ability.
The bowling performance of Team India was judged to be subpar when all five of their specialist bowlers let up runs in the first one-day international, and there was no sixth option available to use.
Using Twitter as his platform, Jaffer wrote: “Sanju was benched despite the fact that he was playing well because our team lacks sufficient all-rounders and part-time options. In my opinion, the lack of all-rounders and part-time workers is due to a combination of factors. #NZvIND #SanjuSamson.”
Jaffer went on to argue that India has not been effectively managing all-rounders and that they are not providing opportunities for all-rounders to enhance their skills. He also offered his opinion on the subject of why there are not more batters who are able to roll their arms over.
“We struggle to produce all-rounders because our player development isn’t strong enough. We are fast to play them at the top level because there aren’t many of them, but if they have a string of poor performances, we will kick them out just as quickly as we brought them in.
A few examples of this include Vijay Shankar, Venky Iyer, Shivam Dube, and Krunal Pandyta. Need to exercise patience while they mature, “Jaffer was the author.
“Batters have ceased bowling in the nets due to the lack of part-time bowling choices,” he continued. “Bowling machines and throwdown experts are available, thus batters have stopped bowling in the nets.”
As a result of the visitors’ inability to defend 306, Team India was defeated in the first one-day international match against New Zealand by seven wickets.
On Wednesday, the third and final one-day international of the series will be played.
