Monty Panesar is of the opinion that Rohit Sharma might not be a part of the Indian team that competes in the Twenty20 World Cup in 2024. This is because certain seasoned Indian cricket players are considering retiring from Twenty20 cricket.
As a result of India’s disappointing finish to their T20 World Cup 2022 campaign, a number of seasoned cricket players are facing uncertain futures as a result of the fallout from the tournament. Dinesh Karthik, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, and possibly even Rohit Sharma, the team’s captain, are among the players who could be on their way out.
Even though Virat Kohli was the batter with the most runs scored in the Twenty20 World Cup this year, some people believe that he will not participate in the competition when it is held in 2024. Monty Panesar, who played spin for England in the past, recently offered his thoughts on the matter.
In a conversation with timesofindia.com, Panesar discussed his thoughts on the possible outcomes for the careers of some of India’s more seasoned players. The former cricket player acknowledged that everyone was let down by the performance of the Indian team, and he speculated that a few players would soon quit.
“Let’s be honest. In the semifinals, India did not put up much of a fight. It was entirely from one person’s point of view. Buttler and Hales gave the impression that the Indian bowling team had no idea what they were doing. Because you are competing in the semifinals, you need to put up a good fight; 168 is not a trivial score.
“The big names in cricket who could be retiring from Twenty20 Internationals include Rohit (Sharma), Dinesh Karthik, and R. Ashwin. These individuals are going to have a meeting with the management of the team, and the management is going to ask them about their plans… It is time for these superstars to go aside so that younger players can take their place “Panesar stated.
Because of the extraordinary level of fitness he maintains, Panesar is absolutely certain that the talismanic batter Virat Kohli will compete in the Twenty20 World Cup in 2024. This is Panesar’s prediction regarding the future of Virat Kohli.
Virat is playing at a high level of form. He has the best overall fitness of any of the Indian players. Virat is in such incredible shape that his age doesn’t seem to matter to him at all. It is possible that he will compete in the Twenty20 World Cup in 2024.
I don’t see Rohit, DK, or Ashwin participating in that competition at all. It’s unlikely (may not be there). The number of players that retire from Twenty20 Internationals could increase, but it seems likely that these three will switch their attention to Tests and One-Day Internationals instead “Panesar provided an explanation.
