Kabul, January 8, 2023: The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has set the dates for the team’s home series against Ireland in February and March, as well as their forthcoming all-format away tour to Sri Lanka.
The team will go to Sri Lanka for a one-off Test, three ODIs, and three Twenty20 Internationals from February 2 to February 21. From February 28 to March 18, they will host Ireland for the same number of matches in the United Arab Emirates. A single test match will kick off Afghanistan’s away tour to Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo on February 2–6. Three one-day internationals (ODIs) at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo on February 9, 11, and 14 and three Twenty20 internationals (T20Is) at the Dambulla International Cricket Stadium on February 17–19 will take place after the one-off test match.
The Afghanistan National Team will next depart for the United Arab Emirates, where from February 28 to March 18, the Afghanistan Cricket Board will host the Ireland National Cricket Team for an all-format series consisting of a test, three ODIs, and three T20Is.
Like the Sri Lanka Series, Afghanistan’s home series against Ireland will start with a single test match at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Cricket Stadium on February 28 and go until March 3. Three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches and three One-Day International (ODI) matches are slated to take place at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates on March 15–17 and 18, respectively.
In addition to three T20Is and a Test match, this tour will now feature three ODIs. Mr. Mirwais Ashraf, Chairman of the ACB, expressed his delight over the productive discussions he had with Sri Lankan cricket officials. He continued, saying, “The addition of these three ODIs is a significant move to ensure a comprehensive and all-encompassing tour that will not only foster stronger relations between the two nations but will also provide Afghanistan Cricket good exposure.” Although playing Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka is never easy, Afghan Atalan is up to the challenge.
Ahead of the team’s complete preparations for the next ICC Men’s T20I World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA in June, Mr. Naseeb Khan, CEO of the ACB, expressed his satisfaction with the action-packed Afghan Atalan season over the next few months. The Afghanistan National Team has a very busy and exciting calendar of high-stakes contests in 2024, which is excellent news for Afghanistan cricket. Our team will be better prepared for the crucial T20 World Cup thanks to the impending trips of India and Sri Lanka and the home series against Ireland. We are awaiting the several series up front with great anticipation.
