On Tuesday, October 1, authorities began looking into Mashrafe Mortaza, the former captain of Bangladesh, on several counts of extortion and share transfer manipulation. The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) team Sylhet Strikers is the owner of the share in question. Pallabi Police are currently investigating Mortaza and the other six people in response to the allegations.
Notably, Sarowar Golam Chowdhury, the former chairman of the BPL franchise’s US division, filed the FIR on Tuesday accusing Mashrafe Mortaza and others.
Adil Hossain, the investigating inspector for the previously mentioned case, confirmed the same. It’s also crucial to remember that, despite the summons being sent, none of the accused have been taken into custody as of yet; instead, the inquiry has only just started, according to The Daily Star in Bangladesh.

In other news, the Rohit Sharma-led team wrapped up the Test match before tea on Day 5 to clinch a commanding victory under their belt. They chased the 95-run goal in just 17.2 overs to go 2-0 up in the series. This marked the end of the red-ball stage of Bangladesh’s visit of India. In addition to winning handily against the Bangla Tigers, India’s victory improved their standing at the World Test Championship 2023–25 Standings.
Throughout the series, the Indian bowling assault, spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin, who combined for 11 wickets, was too much for the visiting team to handle. The bowlers seemed completely lost at times. Because of his unwavering genius with the bat and the ball throughout the tournament, Ashwin was also named Player of the tournament.
With eight wins in 11 games and a points percentage (PCT) of 74.24, India leads the most recent World Team Championship rankings and has all but guaranteed a spot in the June 2025 final at Lord’s. However, the competition for their opponents is extremely competitive, since Australia (ranked second) and Sri Lanka (ranked third) have both been playing excellent cricket. To further their chances, Sri Lanka also easily defeated New Zealand in a home series.
