After Team India did not advance to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup the previous year, Captain Rohit Sharma of India stated that everyone on the team thought that there has to be a change in mentality. He said that everyone believed that there needs to be a change in attitude.
Following defeats to Pakistan and New Zealand in the Super 12s round, Team India was unable to advance to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup that was held a year ago. As a result, the event did not prove to be successful for Team India. Virat Kohli was the captain of the team at the time.
