The 17th game of the BBL 2023–24 will be played on Thursday, December 28, at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart between the Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars HUR vs STA. With one victory in three games, the Hurricanes hold the sixth spot in the standings. With just one victory in four games, Stars are in second-last place in the standings.
The Big Bash League has seen 19 games between the two teams thus far. It’s the Hurricanes who have won seven games and the Stars who have won twelve. Last season, each team won one game.
The Melbourne Stars won the toss and chose to bat in their most recent game against the Sydney Thunder. Beau Webster became the Stars’ lone batter, going over 30 runs and making a big contribution to the team total. The Stars had scored 172 runs in total by the end of the twentieth over.
The Thunder, on the other hand, managed to reach the 173-run goal because to solid starts from Cameron Bancroft and Alex Hales. After the remaining batsmen contributed, the Thunder won in 18.2 overs with five wickets remaining. Beau Webster, who was a standout batsman for the Stars, demonstrated his ability to bowl as well, taking four wickets for 29 runs.
The Melbourne Renegades and Hobart Hurricanes recently played a match in which the Hurricanes won the toss and elected to bowl. With 78 runs for the first wicket, Joe Clarke and Quinton de Kock, the opening pair, gave the Renegades a great start. The Renegades, however, suffered a blow as they lost three more wickets in rapid succession, scoring just 28 runs. The innings was rejuvenated by the partnership of Aaron Finch and Jonathan Wells, who put on 64 runs for the fifth wicket, allowing the Renegades to register a respectable 183 runs for the loss of five wickets.
Matthew Wade and Macalister Wright, who shared a dominant partnership of 140 runs for the second wicket, controlled the game during the Hurricanes’ innings. With six wickets remaining in the 19th over, the Hurricanes were able to win victory thanks in large part to Wade’s outstanding effort of 82 runs off 50 deliveries. Wade’s remarkable effort won him the Player of the Match award, giving the Hobart Hurricanes the upper hand in the match.
