Players such as Suryakumar Yadav and Washington Sundar were given opportunities to play in the third One-Day International that took place between India and Sri Lanka.
Hardik Pandya and Umran Malik were given the opportunity to take some time off from the team when India’s captain Rohit Sharma announced two lineup changes. The outcome of the series had already been settled.
Ishan Kishan, who memorably scored a double century in his previous one-day match against Bangladesh, was not selected despite the fact that there was no room for him in the squad.
The fact that Ishan was given no playing time once again prompted fans to voice their disapproval on various social media platforms.
Ishan hasn’t been selected for the Indian one-day international team ever since he scored a double hundred against the Bangla Tigers. In the first two games of the series, he watched from the sidelines as Shubman Gill was given the nod to bat as the second opener instead of him.
The management of the Indian team had great hopes that they would be able to give Ishan a shot in the third match, which was seen to be of little importance; nevertheless, the left-handed player was not selected for the game.
“We shall start the batting order. It seems like a terrific opportunity; you should try to take advantage of it. There are a great many areas in which we may continue to improve, and the present day is an opportunity for us to do so. We want to come as near as possible to playing a perfect game, but we know it won’t ever be possible.
“Washington and Suryakumar are coming in, and Hardik and Umran are going to get some rest,” Rohit remarked right before the toss.
Earlier, Rohit had provided an explanation for the reasoning behind choosing Gill rather than Ishan. In the press conference that was held before the first one-day international match against Sri Lanka, Rohit had stated that his team would bat first.
It seems like a terrific opportunity; you should try to take advantage of it. There are a great many areas in which we may continue to improve, and the present day is an opportunity for us to do so.
We want to come as near as possible to playing a perfect game, but we know it won’t ever be possible. Washington and Suryakumar come into the game while Hardik and Umran take a respite.
The Indian squad now has another offensive batter in the middle of the order with the addition of Suryakumar.
However, the inclusion of this bowler comes at the expense of another bowling option, since India now has only five bowlers available to pick from as a result of Hardik’s removal.
