England have included Alex Hales in their T20 World Cup and T20 International squads against Pakistan

Alex Hales was selected to play for England after Jonny Bairstow was sidelined with an injury during the team’s tour of Pakistan and the Twenty20 World Cup.

Alex Hales has been added to the England squad for the first time in three years. The England and Wales Cricket Board announced on Wednesday that he will be part of the team for the Twenty20 International tour of Pakistan as well as the Twenty20 World Cup in 2022.

Hales, who last competed for England in 2019, has been added to the squad as a replacement for wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow, who suffered an injury while playing golf that will keep him out of action for the foreseeable future. Hales’s inclusion in the squad comes after Bairstow sustained the injury while playing golf.

“Nottinghamshire batter Alex Hales has been called up to England’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad as a replacement for Yorkshire’s Jonathan Bairstow after a left ankle injury sustained last week ended his chances of playing in the tournament,” the ECB said in its statement. “This comes after Jonathan Bairstow’s chances of playing in the tournament were ended after sustaining the injury last week.”

“Hales, 33, who last competed for England in March 2019, has also been named to the IT20 squad for the tour of Pakistan,” the board noted. Hale’s previous international appearance took place in March 2019.

So far, Hales has competed in sixty Twenty20 Internationals and has scored eight fifties and one century.

The fact that Hales had a positive test for a chemical that was on the list of prohibited substances led the selectors to exclude the right-hander from the tentative 15-man roster for the 2019 World Cup, which England went on to win.

Since then, he has not been taken into consideration for the selection, up until this point.

Moeen Ali, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Alex Hales, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Chris Woakes, and Mark Wood are members of the England Twenty20 World Cup squad for 2022. Jos Buttler will serve as captain and wicketkeeper for the team.
