The Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders’ eagerly awaited match was rained off by heavy rain, hence the two teams split the points. The reigning champions’ chances of qualifying for the playoffs were all but gone, but RCB took a tiny step closer.

Significantly, a large number of fans showed up to Chinnaswamy Stadium wearing white shirts, T-shirts, jerseys, and other items. This was no accident. An petition went viral on social media a few days ago, asking fans for the RCB-KKR match to wear white as a symbolic nod to Virat Kohli‘s Test career history.

But Kohli did not acknowledge the fans who had flocked to the stadium and stayed for hours in spite of the heavy rain. It is related to a few reasons. The main cause of this is the constant rain, which prevented Kohli from actually leaving the dugout. It’s also worth noting that most of the spectators had already departed the field before the game was cancelled, and the precipitation significantly decreased after that.

On May 12, after playing the game’s longest format, Virat Kohli hung up his boots.

The cricket community was caught off guard by the unexpected statement. This is due to numerous reports and experts stating that Kohli is ready to play for India in the forthcoming five-match Test series against England. The former Test captain, who was regrettably just another Indian cricket player to leave the format without playing a final game, was retired with a lot of nostalgia.

Although RCB haven’t officially booked their berth in the playoffs, a defeat incurred by Punjab Kings or Delhi Capitals on Sunday, May 18, would result in the franchise landing a top-four finish. RCB currently sit at the top of the table with 17 points in 12 games.
