On Monday, May 5, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) lost to the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, making them the third club to be eliminated.

In a match that was crucial for the defending champions, Pat Cummins and company had a large following at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Cummins chose to field first after winning the toss. Three wickets were taken by him in the opening five overs. DC had just scored 29 runs when they lost half of their team in the eighth over.

With a 33-run partnership, Vipraj Nigam and Tristan Stubbs attempted to mount a comeback. But the former went out in the 13th over as he was ran out for 18 due to a misunderstanding with Stubbs. Ashutosh Sharma has to be added by Delhi as the Impact Player. Together with Stubbs, the right-handed hitter stitched a valiant 66-run partnership off 45 balls with a counterattacking knock. Ultimately, Ashutosh was out for 41 off 26 balls, which included three sixes and two fours.

After taking 36 deliveries, Stubbs was still undefeated at 41 as the opposing team ended their 20 overs at 133/7. With impressive numbers of 3/19 in his four overs, Cummins was the best bowler for the SRH. Eshan Malinga, Jaydev Unadkat, and Harshal Patel each took a wicket.

As the game went on, it appeared that batting conditions improved, even if some balls were halting on the batters in the first part of the innings.

Though the weather gods had other plans, SRH would have been optimistic about their chances of pursuing the total.

Unfortunately, there were puddles on the ground, particularly near the border of the boundary, due to a prolonged period of continuous rain. The ground crew was pressed for time, but they did their best when the rain stopped. The umpires ultimately determined that a restart was not feasible and cancelled the game.

In IPL 2025, SRH joined the Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals as the three teams eliminated from the playoffs. With 13 points from 11 games, DC, however, was still ranked fifth in the points table. The washout doesn’t mean they can’t still qualify for the playoffs.
