Shoaib Bashir had to leave the pitch after injuring his left hand while attempting to grab a tough catch to eliminate Ravindra Jadeja in the second session of Day 3 of the Lords Test on Saturday. This became a source of anxiety for England and its fans since Bashir was bowling really well and was full of confidence after removing KL Rahul, who had just scored his second century at the Home of Cricket.

The incident occurred off the fifth ball in the 78th over. Bashir threw a flighted delivery to Jadeja, who sprinted down the field and smacked it hard and low at the bowler. The English off-spinner attempted to get both hands on the ball, but he simply did not have enough time. The ball struck him on the left hand, and he fell to the ground, where he remained for a few moments before rising and shouting for help.

The physio examined Shoaib Bashir injury, and it appeared that he was in a lot of pain.

The 21-year-old chose to go off the pitch and get some help. Joe Root finished the over with his off-spin bowling. Bashir would have bowled at least one more over during his term, which would have been the 80th over in India’s first innings. Root went in and bowled seven deliveries before England chose to take the second new ball right away, as it became available at the conclusion of the 80th over.

England’s medical team will assess Bashir’s condition for now. Unlike India, who have two spin-bowling all-rounders in their lineup, England have gone in with only one specialist spinner. The Three Lions will hope that Bashir’s injury isn’t as bad as it seemed when it happened. The Chertsey-born has bowled 14.5 overs in the innings and conceded 59 runs while picking up the wicket of Rahul. His spell also included two maidens.
