At Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the home team, faced the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 2025 Indian Premier League. Because both of the openers fell cheaply during the powerplay, the hosts had a difficult start.

After the first wicket went, the left-handed English all-rounder Sam Curran entered and played a calm knock. Together with Dewald Brevis, the hitter punished simple deliveries to steady the innings.

Azmatullah Omarzai reached his half-century in style when he bowled to Sam Curran in the fifteenth over.

To reach his fifty, he performed a couple of fast runs and pushed a length delivery right down the ground. Raising his bat to greet the audience and his colleagues, he celebrated reaching the half-century mark. He made a beckoning motion towards the stands, suggesting a private message in his jubilation.

Ayush Mhatre, 17, was out for seven runs, and the young Shaik Rasheed scored just eleven. Ravindra Jadeja, an experienced all-rounder, attempted to use the powerplay but was only able to score 17 runs.

With just two victories to date in this year’s IPL, CSK is sitting at the bottom of the points table and is eager to win in front of their home crowd. In contrast, PBKS is in the running for a postseason berth and is now ranked fifth.

The teenage left-hander Priyansh Arya (103 off 42), who hit seven fours and nine sixes, gave PBKS an 18-run victory over CSK earlier in the season in Mullanpur.
