Kagiso Rabada returned to South Africa after playing just two games for the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. When GT plays the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday, April 6, he might return.
Rabada failed a drug test on January 21 after MI Cape Town and Durban Super Giants played in the SA20, according to a statement released by the South African Institute for Drug Free Sports (SAIDS). While in India, playing for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL, he was notified of the outcome on April 1. Due to “personal reasons” at the moment, the South African pacer had arrived home.
In order to stop additional substance usage, Kagiso Rabada continued to take part in an education and awareness program in accordance with SAIDS.
When he returns to competitive cricket in a pivotal match against MI at the legendary Wankhede Stadium, GT supporters will be ecstatic to see him back in the lineup.
Since Cricket South Africa (CSA) called the incident “regrettable” in a statement on Saturday afternoon, it is quite unlikely that Rabada will face more sanctions. CSA is pleased with Rabada’s “commitment to upholding professional standards” following his apology via the South African Cricketers’ Association following the public revelation of his positive drug test.
“I apologise sincerely to everyone I have disappointed. Playing cricket is a luxury that I will always cherish. This privilege is far more extensive than myself. It transcends my individual goals,” Rabada remarked.
Gujarat is presently in a great position to go to the IPL 2025 playoffs. With three losses and seven victories from ten games, they are ranked fourth in the standings.
Next month, South Africa and Australia will play in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, and Rabada will be available to play. The 29-year-old took 47 wickets at an average of 19.97 during the 2023–2025 WTC cycle, making him South Africa’s top wicket-taker. If the Proteas want to win their first WTC title, he will be crucial.
