Sunil Gavaskar, an Indian icon, believes Prasidh Krishna would have to make way for the returning Jasprit Bumrah in the third Test against England. Indian skipper Shubman Gill had already stated that the speed spearhead would return to the bowling attack after losing out on a 336-run victory in the second Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Krishna had initially pushed out Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep to make the playing XI for the first Test at Headingley, Leeds. Despite a rough performance, he was able to keep his spot, despite conceding runs at a pace of more than six per over.

Krishna bowled 13 overs in the first innings of the second Test and finished with 0 for 72. However, he recovered in the second innings with a more disciplined stint, taking 1 for 39 in 14 overs. Despite the minor improvement, Gavaskar believes Krishna still struggled to get the appropriate length consistently. He also stated that with Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep doing well, it would be difficult to drop any of them at this time.

“I think it is evident. Prasidh Krishna has to leave since he was a little pricey in the first innings. Even in Leeds, despite taking a few wickets, he didn’t appear to be breaking through,” Gavaskar.

“You’ve seen how many top-class deliveries Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj have bowled. And they might not have taken wickets because the batters played and missed, and the ball banged them on the pads. It had to be Prasidh because his length was off.

“I believe he’ll make way for Jasprit Bumrah,” he said.

Deep and Siraj performed admirably with the ball in the second Test, particularly on a flat track that provided minimal assistance to the bowlers. Deep impressed with a spectacular ten-wicket haul in the match, while Siraj earned his first five-wicket haul in England during the first innings.
