In the 59th IPL 2025 match against Rajasthan Royals at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Punjab Kings (PBKS)scored a respectable 219/5 on the board after being pushed to 34/3 at one point during their innings. Azmatullah Omarzai’s cameo sparked a fantastic batting performance, which was made possible by the knocks of Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh.
Priyansh Arya, who only managed to score nine runs off seven balls, was dismissed by PBKS early on by Tushar Deshpande. The visiting team was quickly reduced to 34/3 after Mitchell Owen and Prabhsimran Singh were undone in rapid succession, despite Singh taking some hits and scoring 21(10). After then, the 2014 runners-up recovered with the aid of Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera’s collaboration.
Wadhera went on to play the best knock of his career, but the captain died after scoring 30(25). With a fantastic strike rate of 189.18, the Southpaw amassed 70 runs off just 37 balls, including five fours and an equal number of sixes. Finishers Shashank Singh and Azmatullah Omarzai took full advantage of the recovery, putting PBKS in a strong position to end the innings by the time the young player was removed.
While Omarzai helped Shashank from his end with a score of an unbeaten 21 off nine balls, it was Shashank who played a fine knock of 59*(30) and helped PBKS to get to a good total of 219/5 on the board, especially after being reduced to 34/3 at one point. Tushar Deshpande was the pick of the bowlers for RR, who claimed 2/37 in his 4 overs.
Here’s what Nehal Wadhera felt about PBKS’ batting performance
“It was wonderful batting there today. I think, Shreyas bhai and me, both played well together. I think 220 is a very good score on this wicket. Shashank and Omarzai played well towards end. The talks have been clear with the captain and coach. We have to punish the loose balls, that’s why we are scoring 200 runs frequently. That positive approach has helped us. I think the preparations happen in the nets. The way the players play in the nets, they play similarly in the game. It is quite hot today, but the surface is looking good. We have good bowlers, I am pretty sure we are going to nail this game.”
